Today is an unforgotten day in American History. On 9/11/01 our country was attacked by an enemy, and we responded by uniting, praying, standing together. 11 years later, our country doesn’t seem to be united, instead it is bickering, bashing political leaders, and making false allegations. Many even believe the world will end pending who is elected president in November. Why does there seem to be so much hate around election years?
I’ve honestly not been one to indulge in politics, but now more than ever via social media, the news, and the internet I’ve had my fair share of election banter. Maybe I’m a naive, holy-spirit driven 20 something year old woman, who needs to stick her nose somewhere else… BUT frankly I’m fed up with it all. *Note just as I am writing this blog, everyone has the right to express their opinion, thoughts, feelings via social media and the like.
I may be fed up but it doesn’t mean it’s going to stop showing up on my twitter feed.*Sigh* So, what’s a woman, a mama, a lover of people, and most importantly a Christian to do with politics?
(Acknowledge them, because they aren’t going anywhere!)
The hard truth is that America is a SINFUL, selfish nation. We are in the mess we are in because we choose what we want over what God wants daily. As Christians we are transformed, our hearts renewed because of Christ. However, for some unknown reason we tend to forget that we are new creations even when it comes to politics. Somehow hate, slander, and false allegations become justified during an election year. No matter what year it is: WE are still CHRISTIANS. We still believe in a higher power.
NEWS FLASH: The distress and struggle our country is in now, is nothing new to God!

God plans calamity because of the evil taking place in the people. God has full control, despite the power of the people. Even when the government doesn’t do something that we think is best, God is much more powerful! In Micah 5 he later promises Shalom, Peace from a Savior, and peace to those who receive the savior.
will reach to the ends of the earth.
God made a way, where there was no way. As Christians we have PEACE in Christ Jesus. When it comes to politics the question is: are we looking for the government to be the giver of peace or Jesus? Or perhaps you are looking for Peace in some other place? The reality is that most of our world is looking for peace somewhere outside of faith in Jesus, even those of us that call ourselves Christians. If all of us “Christians” really wanted to make a difference in the world, we would exchange our political banters, for prayers. Jesus is the only answer to the crisis we live in. This doesn’t mean that government is wrong, it means that we don’t need to look to government to be the author of Shalom. Ultimately, Shalom will come to a world who receives Jesus. Maybe we should start channeling our energy to help others find Jesus?
Shalom: completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.
1. First and Foremost, make sure JESUS is your Peace, Hope and who you trust.
2. Take Action, SHOW people the Gospel. Bashing a current political leader, hating political parties, and creating commotion doesn’t reflect the Gospel.
3. Start PRAYING! Pray for the broken, the hurting around the World. Our God is BIGGER, WISER, & STRONGER Than ANY political party, President, United Nations, the list goes on…
Dr. Paul Clines says, “Let your newspaper become your prayer guide”. *I’m not talking about ‘bless their heart’ little prayers, I’m talking about genuine, passionate prayers for what breaks God’s heart.
Let’s get out there and CHANGE the WORLD! Share facebook statuses and twitter updates of Love, Peace, and Acceptance. Be thankful that we have a government! A government that allows us to vote! A government that we should be praying for daily.
READ this: I’m NOT telling you to dismiss politics, voting, and the government. I’m simply reminding us ALL where we stand as Christians, and what ultimately will save this Country and this World, sometime far greater than the government.
“As Christians we have the opportunity to stand for our convictions or follow the world.”
