Today I’m finally sharing my daily essential oil routine. I’ve been using oils since May (6 months), I wanted to make sure that I could 100% support them before I ever shared them in this space. If you are the least bit curious about my story with essential oils AND my daily essential oils routine this post is for YOU!
HOW IT STARTED:
Essential Oils have been flooding my social media news feeds for the last year or so. For a good while I shrugged it off, considered everyone a little loopy and went on with my day. Then I started getting more and more curious about these oils everyone was talking about, and decided to start asking questions and doing research. After all, if so many people were using them, there had to be some positive to them. After much research and debate, I decided I was going to jump on the Young Living train as soon as I got an extra $150 to get the Premium Starter Kit (which is the best bang for your buck). Turns out an extra $150 isn’t easy to find, but I eventually found it and got started!
WHEN AND WHAT:
My Daily Essential Oil Routine:
Yes! I wake up EARLY. I have a good little morning routine that happens most days and it’s the only time that I get “me” time.
A glass of ice water with ONE drop of lemon essential oil is a great morning detox, metabolism booster, and refresher! I especially loved lemon water while pregnant.. it really helped with indigestion and heart burn.
Starting a load of laundry each day is the goal. I use free & clear detergent because my skin is very sensitive. To add a little scent I put 2-3 drops of lavender into the mix of the soap. It’s gentle on the skin and smells great!
Harrison is up and we are getting him dressed and ready to go to Mother’s Day Out. In the middle of cold season I put thieves oil on his little feet. It helps to disinfect and prevent germs from spreading. If we’re going to be out in public around other small children, I usually use this as a preventative measure on both the kids and myself.
We are hopefully out the door or at least trying to get there. This is one of my top stressful moments in life. GETTING A TODDLER OUT THE DOOR, putting away the dog, making sure we have everything we need, packing the baby up, turning all the lights off and locking the house down. My new perfume is stress away oil, I simply roll it on my wrists (It came with a roller in the starter kit!) right before this stressful time is about to come. This helps soothe and calm me, brings me back to center. Do I still get stressed? YES! of course, it isn’t a magic pill that suddenly takes away all of your problems. The oil is there for therapeutic reasons.. and it helps!
I’m cleaning up the kitchen with a homemade soap made with a few drops of purification added in. You could even add in peppermint, thieves, tea tree oil . The possibilities for this cleaner is endless, its actually natural and it’s crazy cheap to make!
Here’s the recipe:
2 cups water
1 tsp castile soap (I use Dr. Bronners)
3 drops essential oils
Throughout the whole day I’m using a homemade foaming hand soap that I made with thieves oil. Remember it’s a natural disinfectant?
Young Living also already sells some pre made if you aren’t the DIY type. You can buy foaming hand soap bottles online or use an old one.
It’s cheap, simple and truly all natural to make!
Here’s a list of 30 plus essential oil recipes Some I haven’t even used yet.. but most of things are things that can easily replace products you are using everyday.
I’m usually diffusing something. If there are allergies in the air my favorite trio is lemon, lavender, and peppermint. This is one of the favorites around here! If I’m trying to get rid of the bad dog smell or a diaper pail smell I diffuse purification. Sometimes I just want a room to smell good naturally so I diffuse lemon, lavender, joy , peace and calming.. just to name a few.
For that 2pm mommy drag I often put a little peppermint on my temples, lemon on the back of my ears. This helps to perk me up and keep me moving for the rest of the afternoon. Peppermint is great for boosting energy.
3:00 – 5:00 PM:
There are high chances that I’m diffusing more peace and calming or joy. With a toddler running around you can use anything possible to help settle yourself.
Time for more lemon water! Be sure to use a glass or stainless steel, as the lemon can easily eat away at a plastic cup. ONE drop of lemon is extremely powerful!
It’s after dinner and time for a bath! A few drops of lavender go in the tub to help soothe the kids. Peace and Calming can also be used for this purpose as well. Before bed I get some coconut oil on my hand, put a drop of peace and calming on the same hand and then rub it on the bottom of the babes feet. It helps calm them, gearing them up for bed time.
After the kids go down, its time for MORE cleaning. At least its soothing when you use essential oils!
I’ve been mopping the floor with a solution I made with purification, and it’s one of my favorite things right now!
Time to get Mama ready for bed. I usually don’t go to sleep until much later but I shower/ wash my face/ wind down around the time.
I’m now using lavender in my daily facial routine! It’s been awesome mixed with witch hazel as a natural astringent. It helps with redness, breakouts, and keep the witch hazel smell less potent. I just mixed it up in a little travel size bottle I got at target. 2 drops of lavender and then 1/2 cup of witch hazel! SOOOO cheap!
**This is only a sample of what I would use on a fairly normal day, this doesn’t count sick days, bug bites, ant problem days..
There are so many uses for essential oils, and I’m just now scratching the surface. I’m learning more and more daily and looking forward to trying out more of Young Living’s products in the near future. They don’t have just oils! They have toothpaste, deodorant, lotions, and the list goes on.
I started using essential oils in an effort to create an alternatives to all the toxins in our modern day lives. A way to ‘clean up’ and simplify the things that we put on our bodies, around our bodies, consume, and breathe in. It’s a small investment that will help to nurture my bodies (and my families) natural systems. It is NOT an end all be all cure for anything negative that your body is experience (at least I’m NOT claiming that).
I’m a firm believer that FOOD and the other things that we consume are MAJOR factors in the outcome of our health as well. Not to mention sleep and exercise! Essential oils are simply an aid. Considering that essential oils are natural products, you have to be able to have trial and error periods. Not all bodies react the exact same way to essential oils, but after testing your body can assure you of what you need. I chose Young Living Essential Oils because they are a reputable company, have their OWN farm where the distill the oils, and they don’t use anything else other than the natural oil in their oils. Grocery store brand oils are a much lower quality of oil and sometimes just as expensive as Young Livings.
