This summer our family had the opportunity to explore Oklahoma City.
Neither one of us had spent much time in the state of Oklahoma before, so it was fun to spent a little time in the city. We stuck to family friendly, budget friendly spots that were convenient to the particular part of town we were staying in. Here are a few highlights from our trip.
We ventured to one of the best parks we had ever been to! Martin Park has an excellent playground, but it’s also a nature center. It also has about 2.5 miles of easy hiking trails that were WELL thought out. We loved this sweet spot, and what’s even better is that it’s completely FREE.
This adorable little ‘hut’ was right next to the playground. Perfect for kids to explore.
Indoor nature center filled with info, live animals, air conditioning!, and even an extensive event schedule for kids programs.
Oklahoma City Zoo
This is probably one of the best priced zoo’s we’ve ever visited. At only $8/adult and $5 for kids ages 3-11 we felt like we got a great deal. It wasn’t overly crowded like the majority of Zoo’s we’ve been to on a Saturday in Texas (maybe we got lucky?). The Oklahoma City Zoo is well layed out and doesn’t miss a beat on your usual zoo showcases.
and Harrison enjoyed being a big helper pushing the stroller.
Since I have a *thing* for grocery stores, we had to make a visit to the local Whole Foods.
This can actually be a very budget friendly option when eating out on vacation. Instead of buying a bowl full of grapes for $3, you can buy a whole pound and a 1/2.
Other Eats & Treats
If you like burgers, go to Oklahoma City. Seriously there are a MILLION local burger joints, and apparently onions on your burger is a BIG deal too.
We went to Tucker’s for a very greasy (but tasty), onion burger.
Ted’s Cafe Escondido served up a great Tex-Mex style dinner. Even better they give free appetizers and dessert per table (with the purchase of an entree).
If I ever go back to OKC, I will definitely be visiting Green Goodies. I think this was the BEST Gluten Free Cupcake I’ve ever eaten.
Have you ever been to Oklahoma City? Planning to travel their soon? We’d love to here your family favorites to hopefully visit the next time we travel that direction.
*I was in no way compensated for this post. Simply sharing some of my favorite parts of a city.
