My non-toxic skin care routine is fairly simple and as you may have guessed contains quite a few Young Living products. I have been able to personally research these products, use them first hand on MY precious skin, and feel confident to recommend them to my closest friends and family.
I have been struggling with my skin off and on for nearly 3 years and spent hundreds of dollars on popular skin care lines, spa facials and skin care treatments, and dermatologist appointments . In January of 2016 it got to the point where I didn’t want to leave the house, I was embarrassed, my face was physically HURTING, and nothing could cover it up. My self-confidence was SHOT. Acne wasn’t something I dealt with growing up or in my teenage years, why was it suddenly popping up in my late 20s?
As a member of an educating Young Living team, my eyes were opened to so many things. I’d been researching, learning, and surrounding myself with people who were fighting for THEIR health, and demanding that there be a “better way”. I felt empowered by this community to truly get to the bottom of my personal skin issues. I didn’t want to find a better make up to cover it up, I didn’t want to spend any more money on something that was giving my body unwanted side effects, and I didn’t want to just reactively deal with a problem.
Taking baby steps to go non-toxic in every product helped. After all your skin is your largest organ and it absorbs everything you put on it! I will be sharing my favorite non-toxic everyday products outside of skincare soon. Why go Non-Toxic?
Most skin issues are inflammation of the skin. It’s flairing up telling you that something isn’t ‘right’ internally. It’s a red flag so to speak. Starting to eliminate inflammatory foods in my diet helped! The number one inflamaroty food is SUGAR (which is in EVERYTHING). #2 Are Gluten and Dairy. ** To note I had already been gluten free, and my skin was still flaring up!
Dealing with gut heath helped too. Did you know that there is a HUGE correlation between your digestive/ gut health and your skin? Getting my hands on a quality probiotic was IMPORTANT! I personally use Young Living’s Life 9 probiotic.

Drinking loads of water and consuming antioxidant rich ingredients helped. Warm lemon water and Young Living’s Ningxia Red are some of my favorite ways to get antioxidants in. They fight any damage caused by free radicals! Also lemon helps the body produce collagen which helps smooth out lines in skin! (plus a million other health benefits for these two!)
All this to say.. my journey hasn’t been JUST about my skin care routine. Sure the routine is a huge part, BUT I don’t want you to miss out on truly dealing with the issue from the inside out. Again this is only a SMALL portion of suggestions of things to consider/ start researching / changing when tackling a major skin issue.
Now on to my personal non-toxic skin care routine! Please Note that I reference Young Living Essential Oils. I do understand that other companies make essential oils, but I urge you to use caution when placing them on your skin. Young Living is the only company that I can recommend with confidence to use. I have personally been burned on my face by a different brand essential oil. All essential oils are NOT created equally, and when it comes to my skin and your skin, I don’t want you taking chances!

1. Apply Young Living Frankincense Essential Oil (neat: not diluted) all over my face to help reduce redness, wrinkles and lines.
2. Apply Young Living Manuka Essential Oil (neat: not diluted) to any troubled spots.
3. Apply Young Living Art Renewal Serum in small circles all over face. This helps moisturize the skin and prime for make up.
4. Apply Non-Toxic Make-up! (I’ll be sharing what’s in my make-up bag in a separate post)
1. Wash Face and Remove Eye make-up.
I have a few suggestions for gentle, non-toxic facial cleansing:
Young Living Orange Blossom face wash is amazing, and will last you about 6 MONTHS for one bottle.
When I’m on the go, I often use the Norwex facial cleansing cloth.
I’ve also personally found the MOST success with OIL CLEANSING. (click to find out what it is/ how to do it)
*This link is exactly how I do it. I use a combo of castor oil and olive oil as my base. Then I add Young Living Frankincense and Tea Tree Essential Oils. I keep my mixture in a glass bottle with an eye dropper.
2. Take my eye make up off with Young Living’s Mirah Shave oil (no this isn’t a typo! , because it’s a ton-toxic product it has so many uses. I’m also moisturizing my skin while I’m taking off my eye make up!)
2. Apply Young Living Wolfberry Eye Cream to promote skin tightening, and reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes.
3. Apply Young Living ART Sheerlume brightening cream to brighten up the skin overnight!
4. Apply Young Living Manuka Essential Oil to every troubled spot on my skin. I have found that Manuka Essential Oil has been less drying and more effective on my face than any traditional spot treatment that I’ve tried!
Every 4th Night:
I wash my face with Young Living’s Satin Mint Facial Scrub. A little goes a long way! One tube will last me well over 6 months!
Every 5th- 7th Night:
I try to do a DIY clay mask. With or without activated charcoal! Here is the recipe with the exact ingredients that I purchase.
2 tsp bentonite clay
2 tsp activated charcoal ( absorbs thousands of times its own mass in harmful substances – AKA amazing for troubled skin)
4 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)
2 drops Young Living Rosemary Essential Oil
2 drops Young Living Tea Tree Essential Oil (sometimes I sub Manuka)
2 drops Young Living Frankincense
Mix above ingredients until smooth, smear on face, wait 30 minutes until it hardens (you won’t be able to talk, eat or drink — thats normal), and then rinse it off! The charcoal is MESSY but worth it!
The mask makes my face VERY red when I wash it off, but the redness goes away and leave radiant skin.
When I have dry skin:
I use Young Living Rose Ointment (only at night) if I have an extremely dry patch of skin.
I also use the Young Living mirah shave oil as a moisturizer if my face becomes dry in the morning.
When I need a toner:
I typically use straight Witch Hazel.
Please remember this is my personal routine. I saw results within a month of strictly adhering to this routine and guidelines. This exact routine may not work for everyone! I’m willing to help you troubleshoot and give you ideas along the way.
