“These days, everything is ‘bad for you’.”
Why should I go non-toxic?
“Do I really need to go “green” in the products that I use around my house, around my children, put on my skin and share with my friends?”
“Everything causes cancer, and we are all going to die sometime.. so what’s the point?”
These are legitimate comments I’ve heard and seen real people mutter, share on social media, and even share straight to my face. If I’m honest these are comment that ran through my head just a few years ago.
I honestly wasn’t fully convinced of the whole “All-Natural , Non-toxic lifestyle” for the reasons I should have been. I first jumped in because it was CHEAPER!
I’ve personally only spent a total of $45 on non-toxic, all natural cleaners (that WORK) for my home in the last TWO YEARS.
At first I didn’t think much about the make-up I used, the facial products, the shampoo, or the products I was using on a daily basis on my children.
I fully believed that I’d be out hundreds of dollars if I tried to switch all these products to something more natural, that they wouldn’t work as well, and that the only thing they would save me from is cancer (which could be caused from the air I breathe in and have ZERO control over).
Instead I spent HUNDREDS of dollars trying to fix a huge SKIN problem that I faced for nearly 3 years. My skin was OUT OF CONTROL and I was willing to do anything and everything to help “save face”. But was I?
I tried popular skin care lines that made HUGE claims, I tried med spa quality chemical peels/ masks you name it, I tried it and PAID for it with money my family honestly didn’t have to spend.
I didn’t go 100% into the “all natural, non-toxic” route because I was afraid it wouldn’t work, it would take too long, and no one was showing off before and after pictures of “the natural way”. So, I’m showing you mine TODAY. The first picture was taken in February of 2016, the next in July of 2016, and then next Feb 2017 – all are make-up free taken with an iPhone 6 in selfie mode. I was able to tackle my skin care issue from the inside-out, doing it the “all natural, non-toxic way” and I can honestly say it has CHANGED MY LIFE not just my face.
(I’ll be sharing my non-toxic skin care routine & story in a future blog post)
You may not have a skin care issue, that pushes you over the edge to do more research like I did. BUT you might have another issue? Some people dive deeper because of their children’s behavior or sensory issues, some people have an unexplainable condition, some have a friend or close loved one that they are desperately trying to help.
Here’s the deal, it ISN’T just about cancer, or you dying. So get that MYTH out of your head.
I’m not writing this to scare someone. I’m not writing this to simply sell you something. I’m writing this to help educate you on something that I had NO IDEA would literally CHANGE MY LIFE.
Here’s WHY I think it’s worth it to start taking small steps towards the Non-toxic lifestyle that will have an impact on your life TODAY (not just in the what if/ maybe)…
- Your Senses! Seriously, When you are breathing in synthetic, toxic fragrances it hinders your olfactory system (sense of smell) and blocks other smells. You will also be about to taste better! Going non-toxic will open up a whole new world, and help your body do what it was created to do!!
- Bye Bye to random days where you just feel blah!
- This will aid in preventing sickness and recover MUCH quicker. Chemical toxics reek HAVOC on our body’s immune systems. They physically slow down our bodies natural immune responses and cause panic to our bodies which causes our body to not feel good. It’s like trying to flush a clogged toilet.
- Your HORMONES. If you’ve ever been/ or been around a 7th grade girl, a pregnant lady, or a 15 year old boy.. we all know that hormones RULE our body. They control our moods, our energy levels, the way in which we respond to situations, our appetite, our sex drive, our digestive system, our hair loss/ thinning . Hormones are part of our bodies endocrine system. I honestly had NO idea that the make up, shampoo, deodorant, face wash, lotions, candles, air freshners , soaps, laundry detergents, and more contained ingredients that are ENDOCRINE disruptors. I was completely oblivious that I could be putting something on the outside, but it was actually causing more problems on the INSIDE that would eventually come out!!
Friends, this ONLY scratches the surface. I’d love to help you do your own research and navigate your health journey implementing a non-toxic lifestyle taking one step at a time.
